Changing Tides

I built a structure upon the beach
And populated it with my imagination
Embued it with dreams beyond my reach
Impelled by yearning and infatuation

It was quite a site for admirer's to behold
This work of love inspired by adoration
As I envisioned, then employed, my hands to mold
A castle of sand worthy of veneration

For hours I labored with gentlest touch
To construct a solid foundation
The infinite patience required was such
That I was absorbed beyond explanation

I crafted her proud with towers and moats
With keeps, turrets, and notched crenelations
And for fortification and defense by the host
I made sure to include machicolations

She was magnificent when finally I was done
An architectual edifice from plain excavation
And as I reflected with the setting of the sun
I was struck by a sudden illumination

The best relationships are but castles of sand
For they are ephemeral with tidal depredations
So keep romance alive with constant gentle hand
Or else face the bleakness of Love's deprivation
